Every year in the month of September, it becomes a time to celebrate Hispanic heritage. Many people celebrate by cooking food, hosting celebrations and visiting home countries. Lillian Hernandez (8th) says “To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I always go back to Puerto Rico and its really fun.” This year students are appreciating Hispanic heritage by doing creative writing in Spanish class about Hispanic Floridians. The festivities aren’t just school activities, there are multiple festivals and art exhibitions all around Orlando celebrating Hispanic Heritage this month. In addition to celebrations, there are also contests. The entire state of Florida, grades 4-12, are invited to participate in an essay contest about Hispanic Americans who had an impactful effect on Florida’s history.
