As you know, every year a yearbook is made to commemorate the school year, but do you know what goes into the yearbook? There are three main types of yearbook students that put the yearbook together and make it look nice. These types are photographers, designers, and writers, as well as an editor for each of these “branches of yearbook”, and two Co-Editors-in-Chief that oversee and review all three of these branches before the yearbook is published.
When you flip through the yearbook for the first time, the first thing you look for is most likely the photos. The photos in the yearbook are chosen to catch the eye and generate interest in the spread (two pages that talk about a topic, like a certain elective). Without the photos, the yearbook would be a series of short descriptions of the school year. However, without designers, the photos wouldn’t quite have the same effect.
If you look at a yearbook, you might notice the layout of each spread looks similar, yet never the same. This intricate and tedious work is done by a team of designers, and without them, our yearbook would be a disorganized mess, and nobody would understand what each spread is about. While the design team’s works is astounding, they would be meaningless without the works of the writers.
Inside the pages of the yearbook, you will notice that each spread has a story to it, and each story is teeming with descriptions, captions, and more! These stories are written by a team of writers, all working to make all the stories look as if they were all written by one mind, which is not an easy task. However, this is a very important role because if there were no stories, then it would just be pictures and nobody would know what the spreads are about.
While each branch has a different role when it comes to making the yearbook come to life, each role is equally important. For instance, if there were no designers or writers, then the yearbook would be more of a collage, but if there were only designers, then it would just be a bunch of pretty papers with no meaning to them, and if it was solely writers, the yearbook would be a lengthy essay about the school year. So next time you take a look at a yearbook, think about all the effort that was put into it, and be grateful for the keepsake they made.
