When someone says ‘sport’ you probably think of a ball or goal. However in fencing, they use a sword rather than a ball. Fencing has been in every modern Olympic Games since 1896, only 5 sports have been at every summer Olympic games. The goal of fencing is to poke your opponent to score 15 points and win the bout (match). Seems simple but it’s anything but that: to win a match you need incredible accuracy, fast reaction time and fantastic foot work. Pro fencers can flèche (fencer shoots forward with speed) faster than a bullet using a saber. “It’s helped me improve my reaction time and foot work,” Sky Liu (6) said, who fences at Sword Masters Club and Fencing Academy in Orlando.
