FCA students at their meeting
LCMS offers a variety of clubs, one of those clubs is FCA, which stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This club is an opportunity for athletes to find people in the school who play the same sport as them, and also to learn about Jesus and God! They meet every other Thursday from 8:50 to 9:20, snacks are provided and they usually are donuts and muffins. It’s not all just talk about God though. This club also plays games that help them get to know each other and for some 8th graders it’s a way to find out who will be with them in High School next year!
The club sponsor, Mrs. Morris, is a 6th grade math teacher who chose to sponsor the club because “one of my students last year asked me if I would consider sponsoring the FCA club at LCMS. I was honored that he reached out and thought of me as a possible sponsor. I knew this was a way I could build more relationships with LCMS students outside the classroom and was happy to accept the role of sponsor.”
Students also get to share their opinions on topics that they talk about in the meetings. Sometimes it’s on a bible verse, other times it’s about something that relates to them. Either way it gives them a way to express how they feel about something!
Kyzli Santiago said that she comes to FCA because it gives her an opportunity once a week to grow closer to God and her friends who share the same beliefs as her. Also, she likes that each week there are people who contribute to the snacks that are being brought in!
