Whether you’re in 6th or 8th grade all are welcome in student council. All are supported in running for office. The categories of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are going through a race that will last through October. LCMS is buzzing with info from Paws 52 news commercials and even posters set up around campus. Put your voice to use and vote in October for your favorite candidates to represent the students of our school.
The LCMS Student Government Association (SGA) sponsor Joann Illemsky said, “I am always excited for the new 6th graders to join SGA because it’s a great way to get involved in the school. They also learn a lot from the 8th graders in SGA.” She really likes seeing the evolution from 6th to 8th in SGA as they learn more about the system and develop pride for their school.
Some SGA events include annual volleyball concessions and going to elementary schools to teach about student council. Many members, even ones who aren’t in any kind of officer position love going to these events to show school spirit and support of the SGA.
Last year’s SGA Secretary Joss Shaw said, “I am excited to reappear as a returning candidate, and I’m trying to get as many votes as possible.” Her successful campaign last year was a huge hit around the school, with many students repeating her slogan, “You don’t know Jossalynn?” She is excited to run for secretary again this year.
