Summer is here! Schools have ended! And so much fun is to be explored. While vacations are mostly what happens in summer, there are many more things that happen too, such as, camps!
This summer, from June 2nd to June 11th, Band camp took place at Hagerty High School. Our school—Lawton Chiles Middle School— and Jackson Heights Middle School had a Band Camp together.
Students in Band Camp had to learn multiple pieces to play, and in total, there were 4 bands that played. 2 of them for beginners (Beginning Band and Beginning Jazz Band), and the other 2 for returning band students (Returning Band and Jazz Band.)
Mrs. Kuperman, Mrs. Autrey, Mr. Williamson, Mr. Kuperman, and Mr. Brian Kuperman were the teachers that organized the camp, and many other people helped too, as well as some high schoolers.
Kids in Band Camp were separated into sections that aligned with their instrument, and in those sections they would practice the pieces. Then, after their sectionals were over, they would practice with the whole band to put what they learned all together! Some kids also played 2 instruments, for multiple reasons, and they had to practice for much longer!
The Band Camp’s concert was truly great. All the students did an excellent job learning and playing their music in only around a week.
Now that their camp is over, they can go and enjoy their summer activities. Have a great summer!
